Often overlooked in American and World History, the Cold War was a time with great highs and equally impressive lows… this seemingly forgotten conflict brought us the post-WWII technology rush; the jet age;  the space race; global conflict prevention and even the dawning of the atomic era.

Following World War II, the Cold War conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union persisted for decades. This period of geopolitical friction between the Soviet Union and the United States and their respective allies, the Eastern Bloc and the Western Bloc, stemmed anti-communist suspicions and international incidents that led the two megapowers to the brink of nuclear war.

As always, the Jeep played a prominent role in this era. In fact, the Willys M38A1 was a turning point in the Jeep’s transition from wartime workhorse to the everyman vehicle of the early 50s.  This stylish military Jeep served a variety of purposes and was used worldwide on U.S. installations for decades. Unlike its predecessors, this Jeep introduced a restyled body that featured rounded hood and fenders. The M38A1 would serve as the blueprint for the wildly successful Jeep CJ-5, developed for the civilian market. Production numbers for the M38A1 totaled just over 100,000 vehicles.
