The XJ Cherokee was a sport utility vehicle offered by Jeep from 1983 to 2001; available globally through 2014. Approximately 3 million XJ Cherokees were manufactured between 1984 and 2001. Jeep advertised their XJs as Sportwagons, leading them to become forerunners of the contemporary sport utility vehicle (SUV) before the term came into prominence. Throughout its lengthy lifespan, the XJ was offered in a variety of trim packages including Laredo, Pioneer, Orvis and Country editions, among others.
